I am a constituent in (your electorate) and I am writing to ask you to support the Open Letter “Ten Years On: It’s Time to End Greyhound Racing in NSW”. The letter calls on the NSW Parliament to commit to a planned phase-out of greyhound racing and to end further public funding of the industry.

October 2026 marks ten years since the NSW Government reversed its decision to end greyhound racing and gave the industry “one final chance” to reform. That chance has failed. Since July 2017, more than 600 greyhounds have died on NSW tracks and more than 25,000 have been injured. There have been 5,796 recorded rule breaches, including offences involving drugging and animal cruelty, and $207 million in taxpayer funding has propped up the industry.

Five separate reviews have examined the industry’s regulatory framework since 2016. The 2025 Drake Inquiry made 65 recommendations after finding significant governance and operational failures, and many key recommendations remain unimplemented, including a cap on breeding and an end to exporting retired dogs overseas.

Behind these numbers are individual dogs. Greyhounds are gentle, affectionate animals, and they deserve lives free from the risks of an industry that exists primarily as a wagering product.

I welcome the end of greyhound racing at Wentworth Park and the return of this Crown land to the community as public open space. I am concerned, however, that $10 million in public funding has been committed to move the industry to other tracks. At a time of real pressure on household budgets and public services, that money would be better invested in healthcare, education, transport and community infrastructure.

I am asking you, as my representative, to support a planned phase-out of greyhound racing in NSW and an end to further public funding of the industry.
