On 11 September, the Liberal-National Government’s shooters killed an entire herd of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park, in a manner so violent and unprofessional that it must be fully examined within Parliament. Long trails of blood showed the horses did not die quickly; they suffered long slow deaths, and the shooting caused three pregnant mares to spontaneously abort their foals. We have just learnt that the bloodbath didn’t end there, with further shootings being revealed.
This is a matter where individual opinions on brumbies are no longer relevant: no one deserves to die like that, no Government program should feature such violence, and the Liberal-National Government’s conservation program should not be leaving communities traumatised. We demand an Inquiry into this government sanctioned cruelty.
