Liberal leader Angus Taylor has spoken out to stop the aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park. But the NSW Liberal Party voted to remove protections for the brumbies and voted consistently to kill them.

Liberal leader Angus Taylor has spoken out to stop the aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park. But the NSW Liberal Party voted to remove protections for the brumbies and voted consistently to kill them.

The aerial shooting is horrific, cruel and devastating for communities across NSW. Horses are being shot and left to suffer with severe wounds. Pregnant mares are being killed. Foals are being orphaned and left to die. This is a bloodbath.

We're asking Liberal MPs to publicly change their position and commit to supporting an end to the killing of Brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park and to support investment in humane alternatives.

Aerial shooting does not provide long-term solutions and does not work. Immunocontraception (fertility control) has been used successfully to manage wild horse populations in similar terrain in the United States. It is humane, effective and scientifically proven, yet this alternative remains ignored in favour of killing programs. The Liberal Party has the opportunity to stand with affected communities and the Brumbies. Animal welfare matters. Humane solutions exist.

I am writing to you because of the aerial shooting of brumbies happening in Kosciuszko National Park. Your party leader, Angus Taylor, has spoken out against this killing program and has said he will be bringing this issue to parliament.

Despite this, the NSW Liberal Party has voted to remove protections for the Brumbies and has voted consistently to kill them, including voting to repeal the Kosciuszko Wild Horse Heritage Act. I am asking you to change your position, publicly align with the Federal leader of the Liberal Party, and commit to protecting the brumbies from harm.

Your vote could mean the difference between further animal suffering and harm, or a humane solution going forward.

There is a plan to continue control operations through mid-2027. Unless your party stands with the communities affected by this and with the brumbies that are suffering, the killing will continue.

We know aerial shooting causes horrific animal suffering and does not provide long-term solutions. When these programs end, populations rebound, which means these animals are repeatedly subjected to horrific suffering for no lasting outcome. Brumbies are being found with multiple bullet wounds, foals are being killed, others are left orphaned and vulnerable to starvation and predation, and all of this is happening in the name of a strategy that we know will fail.

There are humane, non-lethal solutions that are scientifically proven, such as immunocontraception or fertility control, which have been used successfully in the United States to manage wild horse populations in terrain similar to Kosciuszko. 
We can work together to protect both the Brumbies and the integrity of our parks as there are proven, humane alternatives available.
